Commercial & Instrument Ratings
Commercial Requirements
- 18 years of age
- Hold a private license
- Read speak and understand English (or you wouldn't have been able to get this far)
- At least 250 hours of piloting time including 20 hours of training with an instructor
- 10 hours of solo flight, including several cross country flights and both solo and dual night flights.
- Pass an oral and flight test
By itself, this certificate does not permit you to fly others for hire. Those actual operations are governed by other regulations. Otherwise, a commercial pilot can be paid for certain types of operations such as banner towing, crop-dusting, and photography. You can also be paid to instruct if the holder has a flight instructor rating. A second class medical is also required.
Instrument Requirements
- Hold at least a private pilot certificate
- 50 hours total of cross-country flight as pilot-in-command
- 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time of which:
- 15 hours of instruction from a CFII
- 1 cross country flight performed under IFR at least 250 miles long
- Some of the instruction can be done in our simulator.
- Pass an oral and flight test
